The material decides the century. A natural slate roof, properly installed and properly flashed, is rated for 75 to 150 years. Asphalt shingles need replacing every 18 to 25. That math isn't sentimental, it's structural.
We install natural slate from quarries we name – Vermont, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. When the framing can't carry natural stone, we use synthetic slate, and the flashing is copper. Copper, or it doesn't get fastened.
Here is how the work gets done. First, Arturo walks the roof himself and measures pitch, framing, deck condition, and the flashing already there. Second, the material is specified line by line in your quote, quarry source included. Third, a controlled tear-off, landscaping protected, reusable slate salvaged, and the deck inspected before anything new goes on. Fourth, senior craftsmen hand-lay the slate one piece at a time, with copper at every valley, ridge, and penetration. Fifth, we walk the finished roof with you and hand you a binder with the warranty, the material origins, and a maintenance schedule.
Not every roof needs a full re-lay. When the field is sound, a targeted repair is the honest call. The owner walks every roof, including yours. The assessment is free. Call 617-913-1130 or visit artslateroofing.com.
