We hired Art and his crew to remove the deteriorating asphalt roof and old gutters and install slate and copper roofs and copper gutters at our historic Mansard Victorian house in Davis Sq. It was a complex and expensive project, but Art put us at ease and explained all aspects of the job thoroughly. His crew did a fantastic job and their craftsmanship is excellent. Art gave us excellent advice about materials to select; at one point I wanted larger sized slate, but thankfully he installed a few samples and I realized it was not a good look and we went with the smaller size. Our roof now looks amazing. Art had a lot of experience working with the Somerville historic commission, which was helpful, as I had to defend my roof proposal in front of the commission and had no prior experience. There were definitely some surprises as anyone would expect with a complicated project on an old house, but dealing with Art was always pleasant. He is very polite and treats everyone with respect, and he is very responsive — when there is an issue or new information, he calls within 24 hours. Since the installation, Art and his crew come every year to clean the leaves from our gutters. Overall it was a wonderful experience to work with him.
