Editorial Policy

Everything we publish on this site is something we would tell a homeowner standing in their own driveway. This page explains how that standard holds up — who writes our content, where the facts come from, how we fix mistakes, and where artificial intelligence fits in.

Who writes our content

Every article on this site is published under the name of an Art Slate Roofing employee — most commonly Arturo Almeida, our founder. Arturo holds a Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License and Massachusetts Home Improvement Contractor registration, and has spent two decades working on slate and copper roofs across Greater Boston.

When a guest contributor writes a piece — a senior craftsman, a project foreman — their name and role appear on the byline. We do not publish anonymous content, and we do not publish under fake names or generic “team” labels.

Why this standard matters

These are roofs that families live under for thirty, fifty, sometimes a hundred years. Bad advice on a roofing site can cost a homeowner tens of thousands of dollars, or in a storm scenario, far worse. The content here is treated with the same seriousness we treat a job walkthrough.

First-hand experience

Every claim in an Art Slate Roofing article is grounded in jobs we have actually worked, permits we have actually filed, materials we have actually installed, or technical specifications we have actually verified.

When we cite an “industry average” we have not personally measured, we flag it as an industry figure and link to the primary source. We do not invent statistics. We do not pad articles with generic numbers to look authoritative.

Photo sourcing

The project photos on this site are real Art Slate Roofing jobs. We do not use stock photography for finished work or for before-and-after pairs.

A before-and-after image is the same roof, photographed from the same angle, before and after our work. We do not crop, rotate, or relight to misrepresent condition. Where a photo is illustrative rather than from one of our jobs (for example, a generic material photo), we say so.

Fact-checking and sources

Claims about Massachusetts building code, Boston Inspectional Services Department (ISD) requirements, Boston Landmarks Commission (BLC), Beacon Hill Architectural Commission (BHAC), Back Bay Architectural Commission (BBAC), or other local permit-pathway authorities are cited to the specific code section or commission guideline.

Manufacturer claims — copper warranty terms, slate weather ratings, underlayment specifications — are cited to the published spec sheet from the manufacturer. We do not paraphrase manufacturer claims as if they were independent findings.

Corrections

Mistakes get fixed in place. When we correct a substantive error — a wrong number, a wrong code citation, a wrong recommendation — we update the article, bump the Last updated date at the top, and add a brief correction note at the bottom of the article describing what was changed and when.

AI disclosure

We sometimes use artificial intelligence (large language models) to help with drafting, outlining, or tightening prose. We do not let AI publish anything on its own.

Every published article is reviewed and signed off by Arturo Almeida or a named senior member of the Art Slate Roofing team. The named author is responsible for the accuracy of every factual claim and every recommendation in the article. If an AI-assisted draft makes a claim that we cannot verify from our own work or a cited primary source, that claim does not survive the review.

What you will not find here

We do not run sponsored content. We do not accept money from material manufacturers in exchange for favorable coverage. We do not link out to roofers, contractors, or vendors in exchange for payment or referral fees.

If we ever change any of those policies, we will say so on this page first.
