Slate Re-Roof on 1900s Brick Home
Natural slate tear-off and reinstallation with copper chimney saddle and gutter system. Greater Boston project by Art Slate Roofing.
An early-1900s brick home where the original slate had reached the end of its service life. We confirmed the framing could carry slate, then did a full tear-off and laid new Vermont natural slate in the original graduated pattern.
How it was done
Assess the framing
Confirmed the structure was sound for the weight of slate before committing to it.
Full tear-off
Stripped the failed original slate down to the deck.
Deck repair
Replaced 12 sheets of compromised deck plywood.
Ice-and-water shield
Laid full ice-and-water shield at all eaves and valleys.
New Vermont slate
Installed new natural slate in the original three-course graduated pattern.
