Brick Chimney with New Copper Flashing

This chimney was showing efflorescence on the interior wall — the white, chalky bloom that means water is tracking down inside the masonry. The cause was a failed crown and rusted-out step-flashing. We took it down to the roofline and rebuilt it right.

How it was rebuilt

Down to the roofline

Removed the compromised brick down to a sound course at the roof.

Rebuilt with matched brick

New brick matched to the original 1910s reds, set in lime-cement mortar matched to the original joints.

New overhanging crown

Poured a proper crown with overhang and drip edge to throw water clear of the brick.

Copper flashing + cricket

Sweat-soldered new 20-ounce copper step-flashing and added a copper cricket behind the chimney where none existed.
